Timothy A. Peterson is the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Investment Officer of The Altman Companies. He is responsible for managing the overall operations of the company’s development, construction and management subsidiaries, as well as all of the company’s equity and debt relationships.
Tim has over 30 years of real estate experience and over 25 years of multifamily experience. He has overseen more than $5 billion of real estate acquisitions, development, financings and/or dispositions over his career. Previously, he was the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of a real estate investment trust (REIT) that developed, acquired, managed and leased industrial and office properties in the Eastern United States. Prior to that, he was the Executive Vice President of Post Properties, Inc., where he had overall responsibility in the financial area including the day-to-day management of the company’s initial public offering.
Tim serves on the board of directors and chairs the audit committee for Preferred Apartment Communities (NYSE:APTS), a role he has had since the company completed its IPO in 2011. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the University of Florida Real Estate Advisory Board, having previously served as Treasurer. Tim currently serves on the Advisory board for the Southeast Florida/Caribbean chapter of the Urban Land Institute as well as the National Bronze Multi-Family Council of ULI. He is a past member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts where he served as a Co-Chairman of its Accounting Committee, a member of the Best Financial Practices Task Force, and a past Director and Treasurer of The Please Touch Museum (the Philadelphia children’s museum).
Tim, a native of St. Petersburg, Florida, received his undergraduate degree in Accounting and his MBA in Finance from the University of Florida. He is a Certified Public Accountant.
