Related Development

Steve Patterson leads all aspects of Related Group’s multifamily market rate rental division, Related Development. Since the establishment of the rental group in 2010, Steve has grown the company from one active project to one of the largest multifamily developers in the country, with over 12,000 units in its development pipeline. The company has regional offices located in Miami, Orlando, Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, and Phoenix.

Steve is an innovator who is constantly exploring new construction methods, crafting new features to enhance the rental experience, and seeking to make each new venture more successful than the last. This philosophy led him to create several unique brands tailored for all locations, lifestyles, and various income levels, which include the suburban garden-style “Town” apartments, the uptown located midrise “Manor” properties, and the lavish main and main “Icon” high-rises. All Related Development properties are regarded as best-in-class assets, evidenced by achieving many awards and realizing top-of-the-market rents and record-breaking exit prices.

Under Steve’s leadership, the Related Development team has delivered over 8,000 units with an additional 12,000 in predevelopment or under construction. The division expects to start construction on an additional 5,000 units over three regions within 10 different Metropolitan Statistical Areas by 2024.

Throughout his career, Mr. Patterson has established a track record of profitable real estate investment ventures in apartments, condominiums, hotels, and retail valued at over $6 billion. Prior to joining Related, Steve held executive positions at ZOM Holding, Inc., a multifamily development and management company focusing primarily in the Southeastern U.S. Under Steve’s leadership as CEO, ZOM was recognized by the National Association of Homebuilders as Company of the Year in both the development and property management categories.

Steve was formerly president of the NAHB Multifamily Leadership Board; he is frequently published in trade journals and has twice been invited to testify on housing industry matters before the Federal Reserve Board.
