Stephen Alpart is Chief Investment Officer and Co-Head of Originations for Granite Point Mortgage Trust (NYSE: GPMT), a publicly-traded commercial mortgage REIT that is externally managed by Pine River Capital Management (“Pine River”). In addition, Mr. Alpart is a Senior Managing Director with Pine River, where he is a founding member of the Commercial Real Estate Group and a member of its Investment Committee.Pine River is a global alternative asset management firm founded in 2002 which invests across three actively managed platforms: hedge funds, separate accounts and publicly listed investment vehicles. Pine River’s Commercial Real Estate Group was established in December 2014 to build out a premier commercial real estate investment platform. The Commercial Real Estate Group is investing on behalf of Granite Point, targeting first mortgage loans, mezzanine loans, B-notes and preferred equity secured by commercial real estate properties nationwide. Typical loan amounts range from $20 to $150 million+ and loan terms are generally 3 to 5 years. Mr. Alpart has worked in real estate finance and debt investing for over 25 years ina variety of functions, including third party funds management, proprietary on-balance sheet lending,transaction advisory, loan syndications and loan sales, and workouts/restructurings.
