Simon Aftalion

Simon Aftalion joined Markwood as Development Analyst and Project Manager in 2014 and currently serves as Development Director. His vast experience ranges from real estate private equity to acquisitions and dispositions along with capital fundraising to ground-up property development and adaptive reuse. Prior to joining Markwood, Aftalion served as Mayoral Liaison for the City of Beverly Hills. He previously held a research position at Boston Properties (NYSE: BXP) and a development associate position with EastBanc in Washington, D.C.
Aftalion is a member of ULI’s Regional Land Use Leadership Institute, NAIOP’s National Multi-Housing Council, and the Central City Association of Los Angeles where he currently sits on the Housing, Land Use and Development Committee. In 2013, he led a team to win first place in the NAIOP Capital Challenge real estate case study competition. In addition to his real estate and development organization involvement and recognitions, Aftalion is a founding committee member of Looking Beyond Next Generation, a member of the Young Professionals Pro-Israel Political Network and has lobbied on behalf of AIPAC for over ten years.
Aftalion earned joint graduate degrees from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and Law Center, with an emphasis on real estate development. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Irvine, and a political economics certificate from the London School of Economics.
