Aztec Funds
Mirza Peña serves as Managing Director for Aztec Funds, a private commercial real estate fund based in Mexico focusing on U.S. investments. She oversees all investment and asset management activities across the portfolio and her role includes serving as an Investment Committee member. Mirza ́s analytical abilities have been instrumental in defining acquisition and disposition strategies, and her negotiation expertise comes to the forefront when handling complex deals, including securing financing, refinancing, and overseeing other aspects of the portfolio strategy such as leasing.
Prior to joining Aztec, she served as the VP of Investment Banking for the banking division of Cemex, leading the real estate and infrastructure funds where she managed the equity side and authorized mezzanine investments in mixed-use and multifamily projects, achieving significant returns. Her expertise extends to having acted as head of Investment, Finance and Administration for a mixed-use developer, as well as for two family offices, where she demonstrated her ability to navigate complex projects and deliver exceptional results.
Her career in commercial real estate began with her involvement in Mexico’s first Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). Over the years, she has developed strong problem-solving skills, as well as a knack for fostering collaboration.
Mirza holds a Master’s Degree in Real Estate from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in conjunction with Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM). In addition, her commitment to staying current in the industry is further demonstrated by her diverse set of certifications in Real Estate Development, Data Science in Real Estate, Real Estate Investment and Management, and more from institutions like BOMI, NYU, and MIT.
