Krista Patterson, a member of the firm’s Real Estate + Development Group, handles a wide array of real estate transactions, including acquisitions and dispositions, mortgage and mezzanine financings, joint ventures and leasing. She has extensive experience handling multi-million dollar transactions on behalf of a range of clients, such as financial institutions, real estate investment trusts (REITs), landlords, tenants, buyers, sellers, and investors.

Krista regularly assists clients with the acquisition and disposition of real property, including commercial, industrial, office, multifamily, mixed-use, hotel and condominium properties. She negotiates purchase and sale agreements, and coordinates all related research and due diligence. Her experience includes representation of a large publicly-traded REIT in the acquisition and financing of over $500 million in multi-family and retail properties in partnership with various operating partners.

Joint venture transactions are also an important aspect of Krista’s practice. She has negotiated joint venture agreements and related documentation for investors and property operators and has extensive experience with the complexities that arise in joint venture transactions.

Krista also handles leasing matters for office and other commercial spaces. Her experience includes representing a REIT with its lease of a bio-science laboratory, office space, restaurant, and conference center in New York City.

Krista represents REITs, investment banks and other financial institutions in real estate financing transactions, including originating and refinancing construction, mortgage, and mezzanine loans and participations. She drafts and negotiates loan documents and provides advice regarding all applicable laws. Krista has a record of successfully guiding clients through complex financing transactions. She represented a client with a $100 million construction, mortgage and mezzanine loan. She also represented a bank in its acquisition and sale of multiple loan portfolios, including one valued at $911 million.

Mortgage financings for affordable housing transactions also make up a substantial amount of Krista’s practice, including tax-exempt bond transactions and other executions. Krista has represented lenders in financing transactions for affordable housing projects throughout the country, including a $300 million project in Northern California, a $100 million project in the Chicago-area and projects in New York City.

Krista has extensive pro bono experience assisting theaters and other arts institutions in New York City with their real estate needs, including representation of Signature Theater in the acquisition and financing of its three-theater complex in Midtown Manhattan.

Prior to joining Robinson+Cole, Krista practiced real estate law at New York-based law firms and in-house at a large publicly-traded REIT.

Krista is a member of the American Bar Association Real Property Trust and Estate Law division, and she is also a member of the ABA Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development Law.

She is also actively involved in the Duke University alumni community, including participation in Duke Real Estate Partners and the DukeNY Women’s Forum.
