Bill Edwards is Executive Vice President, Core Holdings, for Rockefeller Group. In this role he is responsible for leading all aspects of the strategy, leasing, capital improvements and market positioning for the company’s Rockefeller Center portfolio, which consists of an ownership interest in approximately 6 million square feet of Class A office space. In addition, he oversees Advisory Services, including asset and property management.
Since joining Rockefeller Group in 2016, Mr. Edwards has overseen the marketing and leasing of more than 3 million square feet of premier New York City office space. From 2016-2020 he oversaw the renovation of 1271 Avenue of the Americas, one of the largest redevelopments of an office building in New York history. The $600 million project resulted in approximately 2 million square feet of leasing to companies including AIG, MLB and Latham & Watkins, and full occupancy from 100 percent vacancy in five years. More recently, Mr. Edwards is currently overseeing the renovation of the privately-owned public plaza located in front of 1221 Avenue of the Americas. Upon completion this $50 million renovation will provide a block long tree-lined plaza unlocking 65,000 square feet of retail space while creating an outdoor public amphitheater.
Prior to Rockefeller Group, Mr. Edwards spent nearly two decades with several of the leading real estate private equity and construction companies, where he served in various leadership capacities at both the portfolio and asset level across virtually all property types. In his most recent previous position, he was Vice President of Asset Management for Blackstone’s Equity Office division, overseeing a 9 building Midtown Class-A portfolio valued at $6 billion. At Equity Office, he was involved in the acquisition, repositioning or disposition of several premier properties, including Park Avenue Tower, 3 Bryant Park and 229 West 43rd Street, among others.
Previously, Mr. Edwards was a Vice President of The Carlyle Group, one of the world’s largest alternative asset management firms. There, Mr. Edwards served as the asset manager for 650 Madison Avenue, a $1.3 billion Plaza District property that was one of the largest investments of Carlyle’s U.S. Real Estate Fund V. He started his career as a Project Manager for Tishman Construction Corporation and was later a Director of Tishman Realty & Construction.
Mr. Edwards is a graduate of Kansas State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, and Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management, where he received his MBA with a concentration in Finance and Real Estate. Additionally, Mr. Edwards is a New York State licensed professional engineer.
