Melanie E. La Rocca is a seasoned real estate professional who has been involved in many major development projects across New York City.
Melanie is Chief Operating Officer at the developer BFC Partners, where she oversees workflow, strategy and essential business processes. Previously, she served as Chief Efficiency Officer of New York City, appointed by Mayor Eric Adams, and Commissioner of the New York City Department of Buildings, where she regulated and promoted the safe use of nearly 1.1 million buildings and 45,000 construction sites. That role also entailed shepherding the agency’s efforts in creating a culture of safety in construction and enforcing laws protecting city residents, workers and visitors alike. Under her leadership, the agency redoubled its modernization efforts, improving response times and bringing consistency to agency operations while upholding the highest standards of integrity. Earlier in her career, Melanie served as Vice President of Development and External Affairs at the School Construction Authority, leading its real estate group.
She received a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University.
