Mr. Pace is co-founder and President of Pacific Urban Residential (formerly Pacific Property Company), a subsidiary of Marcus & Millichap Companies. He is a graduate of the University of San Francisco and a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). His early career began with the ‘Big 4’ accounting firm of KPMG where his client base included banks, savings & loans, state municipalities and companies within the oil & gas sector. An interest in computers and database technology led to the 1983 founding of CMR Search, among the earliest firms to develop and utilize human resource software databases.
Al spent fourteen years with multifamily pension fund advisor SSR Realty Advisors (now BlackRock) and its predecessor configurations (Fox, Metric, etc) culminating in the position of Managing Director, National Acquisitions. Pension advisory clients included CalPERS, CalSTRS, the Alaska Permanent Fund, City and County of San Francisco, Colorado PERA and others. While at SSR Realty Advisors, Al authored the strategy and model for the firm’s first Apartment Value Fund, a successful fund series that continues at Blackrock to this day.
Since 1986, Al has been both an investment advisor and principal in the acquisition of apartment communities totaling more than 30,000 units and $6 billion dollars. Al is a member and Director of the National Multi-Housing Council (NMHC), an Advisory Board Member of the Fisher Center Policy Advisory Board, a board member for Presidio Bank and sits on the Multifamily Blue Council of the Urban Land Institute.
